      High input - high output

      REVIEW:

Santiago is a very high yielding variety with average to poor disease resistance, but with a good agronomy package it will out yield most others.
Not one for those who like to cut rates and stretch spray timings.
Defiantly worth considering an area of for professional growers.

      Great after Maize

      REVIEW:

This seems to be a great performer. We haven’t grown huge areas of it but got an average yield of 10.7T per ha which was quite impressive. It seems to do well after maize for us.

      Sticking with the high yields

      REVIEW:

We have struggled with Santiago for the last couple of years, mainly due to weather impact. In 2012 we suffered from Fusarium through the wet weather and then ended up drilling the 2013 crop in poor conditions. We are sticking with it it is high yielding but it is prone to disease so needs a high input of fungicides.

This year our average yield was 8.8T/ha but our 5 year average pre 2012 was 10+T/ha. The 2012 harvest was 30% down.

      My Favourite 2nd Wheat

      REVIEW:

Have grown this for a few years now & it has now become my favourite 2nd wheat. This years harvest yielded at 9.34 t/ha.

We applied our fungicide program at the beginning and end of March. We had no disease problems whatsoever

This variety is very small stemmed so it is resistant to wind, we didn't experience any damage anyway.

I will be growing this variety again next year.

Good considering difficult conditions for the year

      REVIEW:

Very good considering the difficult conditions we experienced last year. Everything was looking absolutely brilliant until the weather changed to really bad conditions in early.

      Not difficult to grow

      Standing ability was very good

Yes we would choose to grow again & the year after

      High yielder

      REVIEW:

We grew a small area last year and it was the highest yielding variety on the farm, average specific weights.

Slow growing and thin looking in autumn/winter but when it warms up it flies out of the ground and thickens up quickly.

Overall, good disease but weak on yellow rust, not as bad as Oakley though

Cleaner than the rest at Harvest

      REVIEW:

Harvest just gone - the wet one! It was noticeable how cleaner than other feed wheat was Santiago - in the ear. General yellow / golden colour indicating less mould - couldn't really put a percentage differenece on it though. Stood reasonably well too.
