My Bio Am currently working as part of a great team on a estate in the east riding of yorkshire, cropping consists of wheat, barley, osr, beans and vining peas, a total of 2000acres in production. the farm is a modern up to date setup and continuing to advance and embrace new things. We also have approx 30ha of miscanthus grown for drax power station on our worse land. Also a suckler herd which keeps the park land grazed then every year we get 150+ sheep on their holidays from the west to come and graze the parkland through winter. Also work in the woods from time to time. Certainly a variety of jobs so never bored!
Reglone quick stuff (September 01, 2014)

We save a small area of spring beans for home saved seed for the following year and for this reason we use reglone rather than roundup. In typical syngenta form its a quality product, its almost water like consistency ensures it mixes well therfore rinsing of the packaging is excellent. Nice wide neck on can makes product pour
Well. Its not long before you can see the effects of the chemical working!

DK Extrovert strong performer (July 28, 2014)

We started sowing dk extrovert on the 25/08/13 with a great plains sld and stocks seeder at a rate of 2.7kg/ha. It went into ideal conditions, it established well thickened up well for the winter. It had two lots of fert via the n-sensor. Its stood and combined very well to give us 4.7t/ha! We are growing some again for next harvest.

Volume worth it? (July 23, 2014)

This is first time we have grown volume, been a syngenta product its recommended that syngenta chemicals are used to get the best out of the crop. Having a low seed rate the crop established well and continued to look well through winter. Its looked well as its developed through spring and showing great potential come harvest time. Harvest arrived its still standing no laid crops and it went onto to do 10.1t/ha! Plenty of straw too which is good for us as we bale barley straw. Would we grow it again? Yes plans are including some in the cropping plans for 2015. The only negative is the high input costs, if volume was to perfom similarly to others then it gets a bit harder to justify as a normal barley is performing nearly just as well as volume but with cheaper input costs.

Bravo dont judge by looks alone (May 19, 2014)

This is the first time have used bravo, we normally use the generic chemicals like rover. On first looks I was disappointed with bravo, it was in what seems like a large 10litre container which didnt look brilliant and clumsy! In typical syngenta form it has the brilliant s pac lids so no foils etc. The look of the chemical can was unfounded as it poured and rinsed out well. It mixed well in the hopper no problems there. Cant comment on how well it does its job yet as its 1st time use but coming from syngenta am sure it wont disappoint!!

Brutus easy to use (May 14, 2014)

Brutus comes in the usual basf packaging of a good box thats easy to carry with the handles cut out in the side and the excellent chemical can thats easy to rinse out the only downside is the handle which if let go while washing out can be contaminated. The chemical itself rinses out the can easily and mixes with water easily too in the hopper, no sediments in the bottom. Using this chemical as part of the t2 timings, have used it before and its done the job.

PrioriXtra setting standards (May 14, 2014)

This is first time have used this chemical, used for scelrotinina in osr. I saw it was a syngenta product so knew what to expect and wasnt dissapointed! Good strong boxes and easy to carry, the chemical cans is the usual syngenta s-pac so doesnt disappoint there as no foils to remove, a thin transparent sight line so can see contents easily and the chemical itself is very paint like but yet still rinses out very well and mixes in the hopper fine. Overall a consistent effort from syngenta, keep it up!

5C Cycocel the ideal package (May 14, 2014)

This is a chemical that has been around for some time now, its a chemical that does the job every time as we dont use anything else really. The packaging gets top marks as can carry the boxes well, the spray can itself is usually a yellow transparent can and can easily see the contents in it. The chemical is easy to pour, mixes well, there is sometimes a settling in bottom but this rinses out easy enough its not a problem. Overall if all other chems was like cycocel the job would be much easier!! Well done basf

Rover the good and bad of rover (May 13, 2014)

Have been using this fungicide now for a couple of years now, very happy with the product in how it mixes in the hopper its paint like liquid soon thins down in contact with water. Now the bad points are mainly the packaging, the cardboard boxes have no holes for lifting and carrying the product and while the chemical container is ok it would be nice if was transparent like the majority of manufacturer's now, the cans rinse out ok.

536-70 Agri a good reliable machine! (March 19, 2014)

Our machine is now going on for 3600 hours on a 10 plate and while its had its breakdowns on the whole its been a good reliable machine that is called upon just about everyday. The breakdowns have been two pipe failures in the boom and the hydraulic locking bullets coming undone but this has been solved by careful welding, we have put this failure down to the locking holes on the muckgrab wearing oval so therefore a bit of play occurs on the locking ram. The engine is good, is pokey and on top of the job, a maintenance contract was taken out when got the machine so we dont service it but even if did don't think servicing would be much of a hardship. The machine in general seems well made, paint job standing up to the job. Room for improvements would be to make the fuel tank bigger and in this day and age some sort of cab suspension then would be a top machine in my opinion. It travels well and with smoothride it works a treat. A very good machine and confident it will be replaced with same again in time for this coming hsrvest!

Grizzly 350 4WD a nice atv! (March 07, 2014)

Had a grizzly for a number of years now and its served us well much to the point it would probably be replaced with the same again but possibly look at an utv next time as would be a bit more practical for us. The overall build is very good, robust and has stood the test against time well. The engine is very good, pokey and quick, an improvement would be to make access to the oil dipstick better and easier rather than put you off checking. Steering is just about right not too heavy nor to light. The ride is good and soaks up the rough well. Fuel consumption to be fair I cant say wether its good or not as nothing to compare it to plus each operator drives differently. Its done everything we have asked of it and its been a good one also very reliable.

Kerb Flo 500 bit of a mystery (February 27, 2014)

We generally put kerb through all our rape to give it a good clean start and rid it of volunteers, blackgrass and other rubbish. It does the job but not always, seem to get patches where it doesn't seem to have any effect on targets. The product mixes ok if done steadily and not rushed, containers rinse easily enough. Cant comment on the the latest packaging as used old stock up. Think astrokerb will take over as we tried it in one field and looks to have done a good job, see review for astrokerb. kerb does the job but for some reason it doesnt work always, cant say why as it can be in same field, same conditions, same load of spray etc.

Bateman RB35 a good un! (February 26, 2014)

Having been at 24m and 3000l since '97 we was getting to the point where we was struggling to do both chemical and fert over 2000 acres getting the timings right so a decision was made to upgrade the sprayer. The previous machine was not the best so looked elsewhere and finally decided on a bateman rb35 with a 4000l and a 30m boom. It arrived september 2012 and has up now clocked 660 hours. On the whole reliability has been exceptional, under warranty it needed two ram seals and a hand wash pump. The machine in general is very good with some good design ideas but there is a couple of areas that could do with a bit more thought like the sight gauge which is on top of the tank and hasnt big numbers also paint quality is mainly very good but in places it has peeled off like on sheet covers. The engine is on top of the job in operation but if you are enthusiastic with joystick you will soon drag the engine down and labour it. The cab is a nice environment to spend long days in, roomy, aircon works well, if anything some form of cab damping would be nice, in the field its not a bad ride but on road it can get a bit bouncy if on rough roads. In the field it can be quiet in the cab as run engine from 1450rpm to 1700rpm depending on field. Fuel consumption is very good and much better than previous machine as it wouldnt do a days work without filling up, have just done a days spraying and still have 60% left. Because the machine has an n-sensor it has the x20 control system, this oversees guidance, boom shutoff, sprayer controls and n-sensor, it all works very well and will get the x30 when sorted to work with n-sensor. For a machine of this size it would be nice to see a few more features as standard like auto boom height and auto tank filling, the control system is already in place. The backup and service from bateman has been brilliant, they couldn't be more helpful in setting us off and if had any questions or problems. Overall its a very good machine and up to now more than happy with it and comes highly recommended!

Fendt 700 Vario nice compact 200hp tractor (February 12, 2014)

We currently have a 720 on loan till the new tractor is registered and on the road. Reliability is only 4 stars as its only here short term but it hasnt missed a beat in the time its been here. Obviously with it been a fendt its not lacking in any features its pretty much got every option box ticked. The cab itself is comfy, spacious and light, its an ideal tractor for a front loader setup due to the high front window as can see high up. The engine has some power but it does feel a bit slow off the mark compared to others, fuel consumption seems frugal yet the engine wont have got bedded in yet. Overall its a nice machine and would be happy to spend long working days in it. As for cost its on loan but even so being a fendt it will be at the expensive side of the fence.

Phoenix seems to do the job but..... (February 10, 2014)

This product we used a lot of last year and seems to be on top of the job but, it needs a good vigorous shake as it settles into different layers a bit like paint with oil at the top and also I found the container itself needs improving to give it a good thorough clean out as its easy to leave residues in it which is far from ideal. Also an improvement in the box packaging to put holes in the sides to help carry the box wouldnt go amiss. Overall a good product but room for improvement in important areas.

CR – Tier 4A cr 9080 (2012) (February 03, 2014)

Having got a cr 9080 to replace a lexion 570+ it was a decision that hopefully would prove to be a good un! Am pleased to say we haven't looked back!! The engine is on top the job and wasn't at its limits in the 2013 harvest, a torquey engine and frugal with both fuel and ad blue compared to previous combine. The cab is excellent for room, layout and visibility, quiet too. The operation of the machine is also simple and straightforward just like the drives as well unlike some. The header which is a varifeed if remember right feeds well and changes between cereals and osr without much hardship, overall very good. The threshing works well and leaves the straw in good condition for baling for bedding but it can mash it if needing to give it an extreme threshing but generally dont need to mash it up to get crop threshed. The chopping unit is good in that its chops well and spreads a full 30ft header width. Overall its a very simple and easy machine to operate with good output potential.

ASTROKerb astrokerb trial (January 31, 2014)

Having just used astrokerb for the first time we tried it in a field were we have a poppy & broadleaf weed problem and it looks to have controlled majority of the problems. Haven't sprayed any rape that had any blackgrass as we normally use kerb flo which works well generally well for us. The packaging is good and reasonably easy to clean, the chemical itself is easy to mix and dilute, overall a good product and chances are we will use it again.

MF 7600 change of breed (January 31, 2014)

Well after having run john deeres for some time a decision was made to change breed after the local dealer started to go downhill rapidly and hence why we got a massey ferguson 7620! We decided on mf after having a jcb as its from the same dealer so we knew what backup and service was like. Will start with the engine first, this is our first engine on the estate which has ad blue, the engine itself is a very gutsy performer and consumption of both diesel and ad blue is not excessive, It has plenty of torque and on the whole an impressive engine. The gearbox is the dyna 6, again no major faults with the gearbox but occasionally it does jump and believe a calibration helps matters. Its very easy and straightfoward to operate. The cab is nicely laid out and build quality is fine but quite plasticky and also the colour which is a kind of beige does show muck easily, its a quiet place to spend a day. We didnt get cab suspension as as its not quite perfected yet so made do without, its not a bad ride but it does knock if travelling over extreme rough ground. The backend is well made and up to the job it has no problem powering and lifting a 6m kuhn power harrow, once got used to the linkage setup its simple and straightforward to use. Overall I like the tractor and would be happy to have another one although a higher spec one would be nice, the current tractor is simple spec as its a runabout tractor. It just needs mf to work on cab suspension and see if can sort out the transmission jump and its a good un!!
