      REVIEW:

Viscount didn't have a great year for us this year, but it still managed a yield of 10.8t/ha over 60 hectares. It is never top of the tree for us but it is a good robust wheat and it suits our growing plans.

We always get a good consistent bushell weight from this variety so we find a good insurance policy if nothing else does well.

We drilled this variety late September in chalky boulder clay land. We experienced a small bit of yellow rust in early spring but it was nothing major.

The variety never looks that good in Spring but is ok. It is also quite slow to get away. It does stand very well & wasn't knocked down by the august rains.

We would recommend this variety for similar soils & like we mentioned above it's a nice wheat to have to suit your growing plans. We are growing again but in a reduced area.

      KWS Viscount

      REVIEW:

Having grown Viscout for a number of year it has never let the side down.

Group 3 wheat for us are hit and miss some years no premium due to longer hauls etc

But we have stuck with Viscount as a 1st wheat as it has been consistant.

A little weak on yellow rust a reasonable fungicide program is quite acceptable.
      OBMR also helps its profile

Grain quality is always good maintaining bushel weights around 76

This is probably the last year we will grow it, will move to a group 4 ,going to try Evolution.

      Main Variety

      REVIEW:

This is one of our main varieties and we have been growing it for about 5 seasons now.

Despite the bad seasons we have had it has been a consistent performer in terms of yield. It has not been particularly bad for disease though does have some Yellow Rust problems but with our 4 fungicide spray regime that is controllable. I have heard it is reputed to sprout but that hasn’t been an issue for us.

We are trying Leeds this year, a new variety to us but it is showing as one of the highest yielding in trials. It is said to suit northern conditions so might be a good replacement for Viscount.

      Star Performer 2012

      REVIEW:

Viscount is never going to top the leader board of yeilds but it gets top marks for consistency on our farm in 2012, outyielding all other varieties and maintaining 72kg + when others were mid 60s
