      Good variety

      REVIEW:

DK Expower was drilled on the 23rd August last year & we have just harvested in the past few days. We are always happy with this variety and it has never let us down in the past.

This year we acheived a yield of 1.5t/acre. This is par on our 7 year average.

There are no real negatives about this variety however for the first time since growing the Expower blew over with the gales we had a week or so ago. This is the first time in 4-5 years this has happened, however the crop was very ripe and very exposed.

We had no disease issues but this was down to the very precise pesticide program given to us by our agronomist.

We won't be growing DK Expower, not because we aren't happy but because we are only growing Extrovert. However I would recommend this variety to others as we've never had a problem with. We think it is suited for marginal land, we are on heavy clay in East Suffolk.

Yields Well but has standing issues

      REVIEW:

This has accounted for the majority of our rape area and has done well. Its Achilles heel is standing ability especially if seed rates are above the optimum.

It yields well and is very vigorous in the autumn. This vigour is maintained in the spring.

We are no longer growing this variety and have replaced it with DH Extrovert.

      Performs well if managed correctly

      REVIEW:

Grown Expower for 3 years now, and consistently averages 4.5 t/ha but can get a bit of a monster if too much N is applied at wrong time.

This year, although crops have struggled, and we have lost a fair area of other varieties, the Expower is still here and hopefully take off when it warms up

Looked great all season but didn't quite perform

      REVIEW:

Grew a 46ha block last year. Had great autumn and spring vigour, and looked like it would perform fantastically. Thought it would be a natural step forward from Excalibur but it didn't perform any better in the end and paid quite a bit more for the seed! It did lodge badly in places, and most of the crop was leaning by harvest. Was relatively early to mature which was good to spread the harvest although oil contents weren't quite as high as some of the later maturing conventionals.
